About

You're not calling a company. You're calling me.

Reboot Prague is one person, not a shop with a rotating cast of technicians. The same person answers your message, does the work, and explains it afterwards.

Hi, I'm Joshua

I'm based in central Prague and run Reboot Prague as a registered Czech sole trader. I've been fixing computers for years, long before it was a business, because figuring out how technology works has been somewhere between a strong interest and a mild obsession for most of my life.

That turns out to be the useful part. I explain things rather than just handing your laptop back because I find this stuff interesting, and it's hard not to share that.

I work in English, Dutch and German. If you've been trying to explain a computer problem to someone through a translation app, that's the gap I'm filling.

Why I only do software

Plenty of places in Prague will replace a screen or a battery. Far fewer will sit with you and work out why your laptop keeps filling up with pop-ups, or set up a backup that you actually understand. Staying software-only means I'm good at the thing I do rather than average at everything, and it means I'll tell you honestly when a hardware shop is the better call.

Smart home, while we're at it

Outside of the main services I've spent a lot of time on smart home setups: hubs that won't talk to each other, devices from five different brands that were never meant to cooperate, automations that work in theory. It's not a listed service with a fixed price, but if you're wrestling with something along those lines, email me and I'll tell you whether I can help.

Your data, and what I do with it

When you hand over a laptop or phone, you're handing over your photos, your messages, your tax documents and probably a browser full of saved passwords. That deserves saying out loud rather than leaving you to wonder.

  • I don't browse through personal files. I open what the job requires and nothing else.
  • Nothing gets copied off your device unless it's a backup or recovery job you asked for, and any working copy I make is deleted once you confirm you've got your files.
  • I don't install tracking, monitoring, or remote-access software that stays behind after the job. If a remote session tool was used, I'll show you how to remove it.
  • If I ever need a password from you, change it afterwards. That's good practice with anyone, including me.
  • Nothing about your device or your business gets discussed with anyone else.

The full details, including what happens to messages you send me, are on the privacy page.

What I'm not

I'd rather set expectations than oversell. I'm not a 24/7 emergency service, I'm not a hardware workshop, and I'm not the cheapest option in the city. Data recovery in particular comes with real limits and I'd rather tell you the odds honestly than take money for a job that was never going to work.

How I work

  • Explain, don't mystify. If you want to know what went wrong, you'll get a real answer, not "it had a virus, that'll be 1,500 crowns."
  • Quote before, not after. If a job grows once I'm into it, you hear about it before I keep going.
  • Say no when it's the right answer. Sometimes the honest advice is that a repair isn't worth it, or that you need a different kind of specialist.

Still deciding?

Describe the problem and I'll tell you what it would take. The first read costs nothing.
