Dual-boot vs. full switch
Dual-boot keeps Windows installed alongside Linux, so you pick which one to start at boot, and nothing on the Windows side is touched. A full switch replaces Windows entirely, which is simpler day-to-day but means Windows-only software won't run without a workaround. Which one makes sense depends on what you actually use the computer for, and that's worth a quick conversation before committing either way.

Which Linux distribution should I choose?
Ubuntu and Linux Mint are the most beginner-friendly if you're coming from Windows or macOS. The right choice depends on your hardware and what you use the computer for, which I'll go through with you first.
Can I keep Windows and install Linux alongside it?
Yes, that's a dual-boot setup. You choose which system to start at boot, and your Windows files and programs stay untouched.
Will my Wi-Fi and printer work after switching to Linux?
In the large majority of cases, yes, once the right drivers are installed, which is part of the setup, not left for you to figure out afterwards.
Can I switch back to Windows later if Linux isn't for me?
Yes. If it's a dual-boot setup, Windows is still there. If it's a full switch, a Windows reinstall is a separate, straightforward job.
How to get it sorted
